Alternatives to Fasting in School
Fasting for a day might not be the preferred fundraising activity for your students. The importance is in the idea of giving something up for the benefit of others. If you or your students do not want to fast why not give up time, energy, or talents to help people in countries like El Salvador.
Non uniform day
Let your students have a break from their uniform for a small fee to enjoy the pleasure.
Give up sweets
Lock up the tuck-shop and vending machines and encourage pupils to give up sweets and crisps for a day (or week?). Ask them to donate the money that they would have spent in the shop to Trócaire.
Auction
This doesn't have to be selling valuable antiques. You could sell willing people's skills and time e.g. a car wash or a couple of hours of gardening.
Something sporty
Sponsored walk, run, jump, skip, football match. You name it - you can sponsor it!
Quizzes
You could have a quiz on just about anything and request a small fee to enter.
Talent competition show
The popularity of reality TV programmes in recent years suggests that there is plenty of mileage in organising a talent show - charging people to enter or come and watch. Maybe this could be an opportunity For Teachers to show their talents to pupils - beyond teaching of course!
